INFORMATION ABOUT THE TECHNICAL TOUR

Tour A: Hong Kong Shipyard

The Hong Kong Shipyard is located at North Tsing Yi, Hong Kong, with a total site area of 18,700 square metres, including a 4-storey high administrative building and workshops, with a full time direct workforce of more than hundred and forty strong. The Shipyard owns the largest and most advanced Syncrolift facility (90m x 20m) in Hong Kong. 

The Syncrolift has a lifting capacity up to 3,400 tonnes for various types of ships including ferries, work boats, and pleasure crafts. With the flexible ship transfer system, it can drydock a maximum of ten vessels simultaneously. The shipyard also undertakes a wide range of ship repairs and maintenance works and offers 24 hours emergency services.

Tour B: Hong Kong Tramways 

Hong Kong Tramways Limited has been operating tram service in Hong Kong since 1904. When Hong Kong Tramways was founded, the 26 tramcars of the first fleet were all single-deck. After more than 100 years, we now own and operate a fleet of 163 tramcars which includes 2 antique tramcars. It is the world's largest fleet of double-deck tramcars still in operation, carrying an average of 230,000 passengers every day.

Tour C: Kowloon Motor Bus Lai Chi Kok Depot

The KMB Lai Chi Kok Depot is the most advanced and well equipped of KMB's service and maintenance depot. As befits an era of increased environmental awareness, the new depot fully complies with the concept of environmental protection in its design, construction and equipment, as well as in its daily operational workflow. 

The Lai Chi Kok Depot, with a total floor area of 43,784 square metres, comprises two parts, a 3-storey bus depot for repair, maintenance and parking of buses, and a 6-storey administration building providing logistic and support services.

Tour D: The Hong Kong RFID Centre

Established in October 2008, the Hong Kong RFID Centre (SCIC) is co-hosted by the Innovation and Technology Commission of the HKSAR Government, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation & GS1 Hong Kong with funding support from the Innovation and Technology Commission. GS1 Hong Kong, a new name of Hong Kong Article Numbering Association, is a not-for-profit, industry led organization to promote global standards, best practices and enabling technologies in the arena of global value and supply chain management. 

The Hong Kong RFID Centre (SCIC) is located in Phase 2 of the Hong Kong Science Parks, next to the lakeside, occupying approximately 4,500 square feet and is divided into three thematic zones, namely Consumer Zone, Logistic Zone and Manufacturing Zone. The displays and demonstrations in each zone area showcase the applications and versatility of RFID technology in that particular area, allowing visitors to experience for themselves on how RFID enhances the business environment and improves the quality of people's lives.
