Department of Logistics & Maritime Studies

THE CONFERENCE

Established in February 1996, the Hong Kong Society for Transportation Studies (HKSTS) aims to foster excellence in transportation research and practice, stimulate professional interchange in transportation, and provide a forum for exchanging ideas on transportation developments.

The transportation sector is facing revolutionary changes as the world steps into the connected era. Transportation systems in this new age are characterized by unmanned vehicles and trains, smart infrastructure that can talk to pedestrians and vehicles, big-data-driven decision making, etc. The advanced technologies and theories emerging in this new era present great opportunities for innovating and reforming almost all the aspects of our daily transportation, including the efficiency and cost-effectiveness, safety and security, sustainability and equity, reliability and resilience, to name a few. It also poses new challenges in shifting the present paradigm of planning, design, management, operations, and control of passenger and freight transportation systems.

Practitioners and academics are cordially invited to share their knowledge, experience and insights on developing innovative solutions for solving problems and challenges in the connected era. The technical program may include plenary sessions, paper presentations and interactive sessions.
